Dear Sarmad:

AMD can make more Semprons per wafer than A64s, X2s or Opterons. $70 Semprons take less the wafer area than $150 A64 X2s. Only Opterons and FXs make more per wafer area. Granted faster bins make more than the lower bins. And Semprons are not only faster than Celerons but, many P4s as well. Thus they are more profitable for OEMs to sell than Celerons or P4s.

One other thing not mentioned is that a Turion X2 is now the cheapest AMD dual core at $200.

Pete

re: If that was true, AMD's sales would be dominated by Athlons at prices between $150-$250, and not Semprons at $70. ASP would be well over $100. But it isn't.

now, applying the same logic to intel, we can conclude that the reason why there would be no more than 15% of conroe over the last 2 quarters is that there would be simply not enough demand for more than 15%.
