I said the Palestinians occupy the moral high ground. In fact, they have nothing except their chains. They can barely survive, they certainly do not have power and definitely have little to oppose Israel or the US which appear rampant. They are virtually beggars living on hand-outs from others. But they have their self-respect and belief in their land -- and international law is on their side. Don't forget that the motivation for Zionism was the oppression of the Jews in the late 19th and 20th Centuries. This reached its fulfilment in the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, ostensibly as a Jewish sanctuary. But the sanctuary has now become a monster and today the prime motivation of Zionism is hatred for and destruction of Muslims. And why, because they attempt to retain the land that Israel took from them. For this the Palestinians and their bretheren are demonized. The suffering and oppression of the Jews of the 18th and 19th Centuries has now been replaced by the hubris and arrogance of the "chosen people" fantasy as the Jews revel in yet another Golden Age in the US particularly as they find themselves in the Halls of Power of the government. However, if one looks back in history one can find previous Golden Ages. The first one was in Spain, under Islamic rule in fact, and this was followed by the Inquisition brought by the Christians. The second was in the Weimar Republic of Germany in the 1920s and this was followed by the rise of Nazism and all that entailed. The wheel always turns -- for everyone -- and the lesson one learns (or should learn) is that when one is at the top after that the only way left is down -- unless one is very careful. I'm sure you know the expressions, "What goes around, comes around" or "When you're on the way up always be nice to the people you pass on the way -- because you'll be meeting them all on the way down." > This world is on the fast road to US imperialism and all that that implies. Don't deceive yourself by the bluster of the Bush administration. Economic and, later, military power is moving to the East. The West is on its way down, not up.
