The chart is a chart of the national debt, not spending levels.

Your right that when spending levels are looked at Republicans spend a lot as well, but that hardly makes "tax and spend Democrats" a myth. Its a very accurate statement about Democrats. At most you could say "Republicans spend a bunch too", but that wouldn't change the fact that Democrats tend to support spending and taxing too much.


Well, its pretty common knowledge that increasing debt can be at least partly attributable to bad spending habits. And that chart very clearly shows that the debt goes up under GOP presidents and declines under Dem. ones. I can't help it if it appears that the GOP's spending habits are out of control.

More and more, what I think the GOP does best is spinning its own image in the most glorified of terms. In fact, I think spin is its forte.
