<< think Bernake's remarks were a likely excuse for what would have happened anyway>>

That is the classic E-Wave argument

It may have happened eventually but I was certainly enjoying my Peru election rally before he started yapping:(

Mr. Foo Sir,

I recall every silly thing that Greenie said, for these are usually entertainment classics.

I do not think this is the same as then. In this case Ben does not have the subjects worshiping at his feet. It is my strong conviction that Ben knows actions are what is required to make an impression and the cost of these actions (increasing rates) will be offset by the increase in the value of future lip-service. Ben's got to wack somebody to prove he is "the man".

I think Ben acts now, because he must. If he does not, then he has lost all credibility as an inflation hawk. Later he will say that lagging data was lagging too much, yada yada, and maybe they should have paused. This is not a new conclusion that I have developed since Monday. I have thought this MUST be the gameplan for the past month or two.

This is not about business as usual with Greenie.

What makes you think that we go to 240 if we get to 280? I will be very surprised if we even get to 280.
