No, the rich in this country pay a pittance compared to any other developed country.

Are you rich?

Irrelevant conclusion.

I say "They already pay a much higher percent than the rest of the country." and you say "No, they pay a pittance compared to any other developed country." Even if your statement was true (and it isn't) its irrelevant to the point. You could have said something like "Yes, but the rich in this country pay a pittance compared to any other developed country." You still would have been wrong but at least you wouldn't be implying that you were addressing and negating a statement that you didn't even touch.

The book "Perfectly Legal" shows how the Bush tax code only benefits those who make 500 K or more a year. If you're under that, they're taking from you, not giving to you.

More nonsense. The tax code doesn't give to anyone (except EITC earners, or someone else who actually gets a tax credit paid out to them). If you change the tax code to take less from someone you aren't giving anything to anyone, your just taking less.

I would also remind you that Bush is the biggest spending president in history

In nominal dollar terms yes, but than most modern presidents were, at the time of their presidency, the biggest spenders in history by that measure. Still your right he is a big spender, a fact which I had noted and complained about a number of times here and elsewhere.
