It's time to separate the geographic country from the idea of the US. People dying for a plot of dusty land is one thing, people dying to preserve an idea is another thing entirely. The US is an IDEA which means the US as a country or a government or a people can stray away from that IDEA...as we frequently do. That makes utterly nonsensical the argument of 'my country, love it or leave it' or 'dissent is unpatriotic' when, in fact, it's the IDEA that's paramount, not the physical location.
