We will never know just how much he really meant to the Iraqi Jihadists. I think what we have been doing is copying the successful efforts of the Israelis against Hamas. Find and kill the leaders.

Zarqawi was an uneducated thug.

Looks like his pals fingered him.

Given his relations with the rest of the Islamokooks, it is surprising that he wasn't sent to the land of wine and 72 virigins earlier.

By golly that's interesting.

Does this mean al Qaeda suspects that it needs to negotiate its position on a more political level?

Except for his verbal attacks on the U.S. and the Iraqi government, he is almost totally distanced himself from the central leadership. Other al Qaeda leaders have been trying to down play anti-Iranian and anti-Shia rhetoric, and have been strongly discouraging attacks on civilians.
