yeah, i think US car fleet avg mpg is about par w/level in the late 1980s. this is for cars, btw; actually, since light trucks (SUVs and other guzzlers) make up such a large portion of today's total fleet, it is worse. main reason cars are worse than in the 1980s is people have moved to heavier, more powerful cars. 6-cylinders have caught on compared to 4-cylinders and such.
