if intel is no longer able to fully support its antics on the desktop with all those, now diminishing, profits from the mobile sector...what's gonna happen...what's gonna happen :)))

Doug - Yeah, yeah, yeah. This new Intel worship is getting rather old.

Doug, the new mobile core - if it is called Bulldozer as I expect - is already making rounds in Taiwan according to articles. I interpret this to mean samples. If so it might not be improbable to expect it to launch H1 '07. If this proves to be the case AMD has 18+ months to make good on it's promise (we'll do to laptops what we did to servers, before the end of 2008). Yeah, I know, 'if...'. I do think it makes reasonable sense though.

Secondly AMD's 45nm is scheduled some half year after Intel (summer '08 vs. very start of '08). The reason AMD mentioned for this shrinking gap is that they're testing new technology in fab 36 parallel to Fishkill instead of with a delay compared to Fishkill (June 1 analyst day, hint of immersion equipment as example of this). You might point out that AMD is not making good on it's promise that the gap would be smaller at 65nm, which is true, but you cannot claim that AMD doesn't have good reason to state that gap will indeed get smaller with 45nm.

Regards,

Rink
