The point of bringing up the WMD is that this is the justification given by President Bush to the UN and to Congress and to our British allies for claiming that Iraq was a military threat to us and our allies.

That's why we started the war.

Actually people on the left argue that "it's all about oil" or "it's all about Halliburton" or "it's all about global domination" or "it's all about Israel."

They claim that the WMD argument was faked in order to get support.

I don't think the WMD argument was faked. I think it was wrong.

BTW, not every intelligence agency claimed Saddam had WMD. Iraq didn't. We turned some high level Iraqis before the war, but when they told us that there were no WMD we dismissed them as being unreliable.

Turns out that the Iraqis telling us there were WMD were all Shi'ites and other dissidents and malcontents allied with Ahmed Challabi, an Iranian agent.

Interesting, no?

(I don't mean "malcontent" in a dismissive way. They had legitimate reasons to be opposed to Saddam, and apparently this was sufficient motivation to lie. You'd lie to save the life of your family and friends, and if you wouldn't, I would.)
