I don't think it would have made a difference. When you're down to saying the government wouldn't lie, you've tipped your hand. You can't defend the position even to yourself and you're in denial.

Places like Berkeley and Kent State got the better press coverage but the press told us directly we were a lot worse than Kent State ever was and that was after the National Guard incident.

We also thought there was a deal between the cops and us. If we kept the demonstators on campus and out of the town they would leave the demonstrators alone. As far as I could tell, we were successful. The cops decided they weren't going to take the chance and opted for a laydown of pepper gas. It would have been nice if they didn't include their student partners in that laydown. You couldn't find any open space on the entire campus that didn't have a cloud of pepper gas over it.

I found getting drunk was more fun than getting high. My biggest regret. I had a ride to Woodstock but passed it up. I needed to keep working to pay the following year's tuition. But I could have missed a week.
