A19: I'll bet Jim Leyland's teenage son laughs at some of his father's comments about computers...Yet, his father does understand how to motivate and inspire players to become great baseball players...he also knows how important scouts are...fyi...

detnews.com

<<...Leyland doesn't immerse himself in the baseball draft, but paid attention to it to this extent: "I know we got that big left-hander (Andrew Miller ) from North Carolina. I don't know how the heck that happened.

"The last I read he was going to be the No. 1 guy picked, and the next thing I know we got him sixth. I was shocked. I thought he was going No. 1. I guess I should shut up about it"

Of a team's scouts, speaking of the draft, Leyland said: "They are most important guys you've got in the whole organization and they never get the credit for it. They are the backbone of every organization."

"I couldn't do it -- and a lot of guys who say they could, well, they couldn't," he said.

Besides, scouting might require using a computer -- and as Leyland said, "I don't like computers. Period. I don't even know how to turn one on. They intimidate me.

"I have no idea what Google or Goggle is -- and couldn't care less."...>>
