Peter, you can't actually believe that. 1500 were killed in bombings just last month. That doesn't include many if not most of the sectarian murders and certainly doesn't include ANY of the standard crime that every society faces.

If you feel that way, then you must feel the 3000 deaths on 9/11 were not that big a deal since it probably represented a smaller per capita death rate for New York that what they may typically see in a year in Detroit or D.C.
