It was an expression, please do not take it literally.

I was referring to what you hear on CNBC and financial news networks, newspapers etc. When it was first mentioned here about 3 or 4 years ago it was a new idea. Then celeb's like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates joined in and then the Treasury secretary etc.
Suggest you search news on Google for Weak dollar or similar and you will soon get the idea.

I expect that many of the shares of COS are held in the "street name" of Canadian brokerages or the Canadian subsidiary / partner of a US firm.

That would not show up as easily as shares being held by a US brokerage.

Some are also held by entities like ScotiaBank's EnergySplit ES.to EN.to, which look Canadian but has considerable US owners.
