I assume there are state corporate taxes plus 8+% sales tax plus a break from feds, etc, right?

NY is the most tax intensive per capita...
I think most filers (married filing jointly) are in the 6.85% bracket...

The income tax rate in CA is 9.3% starting at around $83,000 (joint) and the sales tax is around 8% depending on the county:
