They're no more likely to be monolithic than the Republicans are or the Christians are.

The hard-core people BELIEVE. The crowd that just took over Somalia are all Salafi Jihadists. Baathists like Saddam will try to use them, but the core is religious and anti-western because of that with a vengeance.

Fortunately, when these types do get control of a country, the people quickly learn to hate them. But the reason this is going to be a "long war" is because of it's religious core.
