Dennis called about 6 p.m….. No position report, but he said they were about 55 miles out and expect to be in the slip at Island Moorings about midday. He’ll call the diesel mechanic I talked with Friday and see if he can come check out the problem with the seawater pump and, hopefully, replace whatever needs to be replaced. The boys will begin taking down the sails (both of which need repairs, he says) and otherwise preparing the boat for storage. I’ll have the wheels rolling at 4 a.m. Wednesday and anticipate a 12-14-hour drive; taking lots of stuff I unloaded from the Mac to go on the Morgan. I should be there by late afternoon or early evening. You should expect to hear celebrating coming up from the Texas coast! We’ll finish up the chores Thursday and take the boat up to Rockport either late Thursday afternoon or very early Friday morning (about a three-hour motor trip, Dennis anticipates) and have it hauled, scraped, power-washed and blocked, and I’ll rush the boys to the airport for a 2:15 Southwest flight that will get them to Albuquerque about 5:30. When they head into the airport, I’ll head out across the trackless, heartless West Texas prairie for home. I hope to be home by late Saturday afternoon. And so will end Chapter 1. Book to follow.
