speaking of noisy crap: The Cerise Serene X2 4800 ($3,300.51 direct, $3,741 with 19-inch monitor) is one of a new breed of computers that strives to achieve quiet operation without sacrificing performance....

"The key here then is for AMD to have partners offering good A64 platforms across the product range."

That will be the case with at least HP. Reading between the lines of their Analyst Day, I see the following.

AMD is not going to knock themselves out trying to beat Conroe. They might have some tricks for the performance crowd, but their focus is on the vast middle. Spearheading their initiative is AM2 and Rev. F. The emphasis is going to be on low power with adequate performance. This plays to the OEMs because they can produce small, quiet and cheap boxes. I suspect the recently surfaced X2 3600+ is going to be what is pushed at the commercial market. If sourced from Chartered and a true 256k L2 cache, they can probably be sold at $100 each at a great profit margin. Coupled with the AM2 nVidia integrated chipset, a small and very quiet box can be built pretty cheaply.

re: Some people will want the bleeding edge and will recongnize that Conroe is good for their home game machine ..... Some people will be like me and will eliminate netburst from decisions but consider Conroe and A64.

wow, most of the IT people would not even consider anything that is even perceived as bleeding edge. Out of curiosity, if you are after bleeding edge, why did not you eliminate netburst long time ago?
