I noticed that every time when people start talking about $5000 gold - it's a top. And every time when one witnesses a wave ot serious, thoughtful pieces about the impending weakness - and maybe even the possible "demise" - of the Dollar --- it's a bottom.

Dollar bears -- and I am one of them -- are astonished to see the US running a current account deficit of $800 BILLION A YEAR. It is extremely difficult to conjure a scenario that avoids a dollar crash due to this simple unavoidable problem. The Canadian dollar is up 40% against the greenback in the last three years. Dollar weakness causes fear from those who want to sell us stuff -- dirt poor Americans won't be good customers. So they lend us more money to buy their stuff and add it to the tab. We, collectively speaking, live way beyond our means. That is the case against the dollar.
