The impression I'm getting is that nobody on any side really knows what effect Zarqawi's death will have. Everybody is waiting to see what happens now.

Unfortunately, it looks like a lot more Sunnis and Shia will have to die before war-weariness sets in. Arabs have a great capacity for persisting in counter-productive strategies long after their counter-productivity has become obvious to all. They get stuck in a rut, and don't have the ability to pull back and compromise, seeing compromise as surrender.
