It seems plenty rational to me to want to eat the food available at that time!? <Through a nervous system capable of storing, comparing, and processing information.> The "nervous system" like organs or other "systems" are essentially specialized cell colonies... what makes you think there aren't more primitive examples of some of those traits in life without nervous systems???
