"Like the Republican Party?"

The Know Nothings(sounds like the perfect party for Shorty) were also active during that time. It was a time when the other major party, the Whigs, was paralyzed over a fundamemental issue that wound up splitting the party, and the Democrats were pushing a concept that might as well be described as the "unitary executive".

So the parallels are striking.

The answer? Unity08!

JF, Like the Republican Party?

At the time, there was only one dominant party in politics, so the Republican Party hardly qualifies as a "third party."

Do you think the Dems today have virtually entered oblivion?
