" So any radioactive gold would lose its induced radioactivity within a month or so."

now you're being ridiculous. if anyone could produce gold at a profit they would do so. just like if they can produce gold from mining at a profit they will do so. gold isn't produced by nuclear reactions from another metal because it isn't profitable. the biggest reason it isn't profitable is probably because it remains radioactive for many years. the other reason is the amount of energy required for the reaction.

unmined gold 'deep in the ground' only has about one tenth the value of refined gold. unmined gold can't be dug up on short notice and taken with you either, which lessens its value considerably.
