many Conservatives are also opposed to special classes and schools for Gifted and Talented kids.

didn't realize that it seems to run against support for charter schools to improve education.

certainly special classes for gifted kids unless we are talking about the arts would be welcome for the economy down the road.

if it can enhance their ability to contribute economically then i would be for it. If it is something that goes to talent like art then i think perhaps parents or school private programs could contribute for special classes.

Not true: Conservatives [believe] that public schools are Bad Things

Partly true: education was better back in the Good Old Days.

The second phrase started becoming true when flower children started taking over the educational system from the Colleges of Education on down.

I question the word "many".... How many, and who? Link?? Links??

I must not be a "conservative," because I've NEVER even heard that....but then, this is liberal land, and maybe the papers have never put that stat in....

And BTW, one of ours was in Gifted kids classes from 1st grade forward. He liked some of the classes, but wanted to be with his friends.... so we led him to some great extra-enrichment activities....He was one of the two County-Wide Scholar-Athletes as a Sr in HS....with many other achievements in the following years....

One of ours wasn't a wiz in Math, but now is a Corp VP for a major Fortune 500 co....go figure, is right.

But, oddly, many Conservatives are also opposed to special classes and schools for Gifted and Talented kids. Go figure.
