They will erect a statue of Dave Barret someday on Howe Street. Patriot, saviour of his country. Philosopher, defender of the poor, poet, compatriot of the little guy. Compassion and foresight were his middle names.

That statue is going to be 30 feet high I am told. An old time theme, showing the man in his gentlemen's waiscoat, bending, while he doffs his hat, and proffers a coin to the outstretched hand of a bedraggled orphan, his foot planted squarely on the neck of a fallen Baron of Finance, whose monocle's askew, tongue rampant, purse breached.

Beneath the base of the edifice are the words of Tennyson, "The Mighty Now are Few, and to the Meek the Spoils are Rendered." The statue committee has received the assurances of the sculptor, but is at loss however as to whether 30 feet of Horsehshit can stay together long enough to set before the rains come. The sculptor is adamant that if the horse is NDP, it's crap will never go away.
