Re: You know too that Chartered is ramping and will ramp even
more in the future

Chartered will start at 1000 wafers per month, but AMD has the option to go to 3000. Do you believe then that AMD will use the full 3000wspm from Chartered in the near future and maintain it for several months thereafter?

So, its my sentiment, that the X2 has an incredible sentiment in the market place and will further have this when the Conroe launch is done. I assume you will disagree here too. So, why should we decrease the price so heavily, when we know, that the demand will be ABOVE supply. Doesn't make sense when you ask me.

I understand the concept of AMD keeping Athlon prices relatively high while Conroe availability is scarce. I was thinking 6 months ahead after Conroe is available in volume, FAB36 has continued ramping production, and smaller 65-nm cores will start to reduce capacity concerns even further.

I'm sure Athlon 64 X2 will continue to gain in popularity, especially after the price cuts. Much of it will come at the expense of SC Athlon 64 and high-end Sempron sales. As the percentage of Pentium D CPUs declines and the number of Conroes increases I have a difficult time seeing AMD keeping any momentum. Right now it looks like we may see AMD posting losses in Q1 and/or Q2 2007.
