>>If he could just have waved his hand and admitted, well maybe I improved the story a little bit, but that's how I remember it, then it would have been no biggie.

But now, as Joan Vennochi points out, the credibility gap is on the table because Kerry puts it there.<<

Nadine -

Once again, I agree. Kerry is basically forcing everyone to reexamine all these old accusations. Whenever he tries to explain himself, he just makes it worse.

Note that I am NOT saying that I believe the accusations made against him. I am only observing that he does a poor job of defending himself.

I think Bush has a similar problem. The man seems to lack the ability to admit to a mistake, or even to recognize that he has made one. Like when he was asked to name three mistakes he had made in his first term, and he couldn't think of even one.

Kerry always tells the truth. The rightwing has pored over every word he ever said in his life. They cannot find a single lie. Nor a single blemish on his stellar military record. So they just make up stuff. The uglier the lie the better.

Why do they do this? And why did they also smear McCain?

Because Bush wants to cheat to win as the "war president" and he went AWOl from the Guard in 1972, lied about it, had his records destroyed and 30 years later shows up in a cod-piece pilot's suit on an aircraft carier claiming he was a fighter pilot. Bush never flew anything in his life other than maybe a trainer jet with an instructor holding the stick. Then he bailed. awolbush.com for the full story.
