"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

This is exactly true. What you said was:

"Al Gore invented global warming, just like the internet."

Al Gore never claimed to have INVENTED the internet. He was the major proponent of it's CREATION in Congress.

These guys DID invent the internet, and here's what THEY say:

Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf, seconded by Dave Farber, Sep 28 2000
"Bob and I believe that the vice president deserves significant credit for his early recognition of the importance of what has become the Internet."

During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.

And we sure are lucky he did.
Otherwise it would still be an obscure govt. program called Arpanet. Gore pushed the legislation that put it in the public shere.
