You just need someone to leave a laptop at a restaurant, work on sensitive information at the home computer, leave a disk in the glove compartment of a stolen car, or lose a truckload of tapes. Peering into a network is easy - or at least easier, when you give away the key. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't really understand the thinking behind promoting the view that NSA monitors everything, everywhere, all the time. For whose consumption is this myth? Once they have identified targets and patterns, I'm sure they do a credible job of analyzing information. But the demands of monitoring and perhaps decrypting terabytes of data every second, real-time, are simply staggering. As Frank pointed out, information can be nested, and encrypted within the nested file... Message 22348410 ... and there's a whole library of other techniques by which information can be transmitted and received covertly. Like others, I don't know what I don't know. There's probably technology beyond Narus-like stuff that I'm not even aware of. But I'm still skeptical... defensetech.org Common sense argues that "security" is a relative term at best, easily compromised by carelessness. And omniscience is still reserved to God ;) Jim
