The rightwing's position is COMPROMISE IS BAD, our way or the highway. This flies in the face of what Thomas Jefferson recommended for a health democracy, that both sides and all sides do what they can to meet in the middle. for them to listen to each other and respect each other. Jefferson also wanted church out of government, a strong free press capable of taking on a corrupt president and The People to be able to impeach anyone they want. In other words, no elected official can serve without the support of the people.
