Magrathea, this would be in line with aleph's finding earlier today:

"Hamid Kutty Shajahan, owner of the debt-ridden Micron Computers, has come out strongly against the "Intel distributor cartel" for what he has termed as an attempt to monopolise the market. He alleged that Intel officials used to pressurise resellers to take stock of slow-moving products along with fast moving ones."

"What if INTC tells its customers, "to get one Conroe allocation tomorrow, you have to take three P4's today?""

That would show how desperate they are. They got their hands slapped over this way back when. They told customers to get 386s they also needed to buy 286s from them. The FTC stepped on them over the issue. So if they are doing it again, despite knowing they could get in trouble...

M.

What if INTC tells its customers, "to get one Conroe allocation tomorrow, you have to take three P4's today?"

That would be fine with AMD, as long as the conversation is recorded and witnesses are willing to testify...

I don't think that's a "what if". CMW will be on allocation due to demand and allocation plans are closely worked between Intel and the customer. Nothing stated explicitly, you understand...
