"consequences of the original Israeli attack on their territory, dating back to the 1947/8 war"

That's certainly an interesting version of history.Sorta like "Gee, your Honor, his face got in the way of my fist."

More like "Gee, your Honor, the local bully has confiscated previously shared land, and my fist didn't do much against his gun...."

The Palestinan army wasn't involved here, cuz there was no Palaestine

The whole region in question was called Palestine for centuries before the founding of Israel. Israel's declaration of itself as an independent nation, which must not have a majority ethnicity matching that of the historical population, inside of Palestine, is basically the same as declaring war on Palestine, or at least declaring war on the non-Jewish residents of Palestine.

The armies of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq invaded the tiny new country with the declared intent of destroying it.

I would imagine that in their mind, the "tiny new country" didn't exist.
