@Magrathea - Vista
"
I have not heard much good said about it.
"

We could discuss whether Vista will be a really break-through,
but I'm using the BETA2 quite a while and its rock solid and
works very good. When you ask, Microsoft has done a really
really good job, also when some tasks still have to be done. I'm
using the latest batch of Office too and oh my, they finally changed
the interface really in a good way - great stuff too.

So the main critical point which I have see up to date is, that
the hardware needs will go up very sharp compared to XP
and 2GB has to become the standard choice, even some older
CPUs which worked relativly good has to updated. But heh,
thats Microsofts "job" ;-) to raise the bar for us (AMD/
Intel/hardware comm.) - so I don't complain.

"That is a primary reason for me to time my purchase of a X2 64bit lapton for this summer/fall. I want WinXP-64 on it, not Vista."

You know anybody going to college? My wife wanted to run XP Pro on her computer, so we bought a copy through the university. We got two discs, one for XP Pro 32 and another for XP Pro 64. For $15, not a bad deal...
