Opterons and most 939 boards don't play nice when it comes to Cool and Quiet support. Admittedly the opterons will have an avg TDP that doesn't make that much of an issue but it is an issue for those of us looking for the quietest possible config.

Buggi,

I will be leaving on vacation soon, and will get a new machine in July. I will see what is available, and at what prices. The price cut scheduled for July 24 could not have been better timed for me.

BTW, will there be Socket AM2 Opteron 100s? I want to get AM2.

Joe

This is good: Ken Heebner a Y2K tech bear and Y2004 oil bull, is still long AMD money.cnn.com

Still bullish on copper, read about it above...
Here's the AMD stuff:

You don't usually invest in technology, yet you have a sizable position in chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices. Why?

With AMD (Research), you've got a company that for most of the past 20 years seemed to exist only because Intel felt it needed a competitor rather than face the Justice Department. But new management has come in, and AMD now is ahead of Intel in terms of providing the architecture that users want as well as chips that use less power ... which is why they're gaining share at a pretty rapid rate.

>> F-Steps DIEs are BIG and 2x1MB DIEs are way too big
to ramp to x Mio. units per quarter and speed isn't that
much more compared to 2x512kb versions ...

Weren't all these things known at the time of design of these parts, and also at time of introducing them to market a month ago ?

These must have been knwn, since they are just calculations and tests. What could not be known is yield.
