But even your assertion that I've not said America was right about something is wrong- and it's even wrong with regard to conversations you and I have had, oddly enough. I have often OFTEN OFTEN commented about my love for the constitution- even to you, and you failed to realize that this is in itself a mention of what is right about America. I'm very positive about America's schools (I know, you don't realize the schools are part of America, but they are government institutions)- and you and I have actually talked about America's schools. I remember in particular you bashing the schools, and me defending them- but you don't remember that as positive about America, even though it is. I don't assume, because you often slam America's schools, that you never say anything good about America, even though America is in part its schools. You're quote: "I commented that America is NOT always wrong. Follow the links.... " It would be such a superb step forward if you could realize that just because I disagree with you, that does not mean I don't like America. I wouldn't like the way you would make America over, and you wouldn't like the way I would, but again, for me, that's the beauty of America, it can contain us both, and it's a free enough country that we can both hold our very different views and still live here (oddly enough I've said things like this many times, and you may not realize it, but I consider this as being positive about America). It would be nice if you could try to remember going forward, that people on the left don't "hate" America, and they don't see only the bad, but they do see different "good" things in it than you see. That doesn't make leftists evil, or even negative, it makes them different from you. You are very negative about certain aspects of America (the schools, the welfare system) and that's fine- I don't feel any need to generalize from your crtiticisms of certain aspects of America, to assuming you generally loathe the place. When you post to the people on the left you are generally posting something very in your face, and it's often insulting to the left- and it's no wonder the response from the left isn't very positive- which is why people on the left are usually arguing with you, rather than singing America the Beautiful, and listing all of their favorite things about the place to you- I don't see you having those conversations with people on the left. When I saw your comment about how people on the left never say anything positive, it really did make me sick that you would feel that way about other people who were just as passionate about this country as you are, but simply have a different POV. If we ever had a pleasant chat, we'd probably find we love many things about this country that are not politicized- but those aren't the things that come up on SI. But with you saying things that are simply lies about "all leftists" we're never going to have that pleasant chat. How could anyone feel comfortable chatting with someone who made generalizations like that? It's like being a person of color and chatting nicely with someone who says "all people of color never have anything good to say about America". No one likes to be the recipient of that kind of prejudice KLP. If you could even just qualify your remarks about the left to "some on the left", it would be such an improvement. It would be an even bigger improvement if you could realize that leftists love America as much as you do, they just love it for different reasons, and have a different vision of it and for it.
