Furthermore, Israel is merely the excuse, not the cause of Arab problems.

The Arab states are not connected to modern world (save as a gas pump), and are in the midst of humongous demographic boom. Their education systems stink, their general culture promotes hierarchical and autocratic systems, and their stagnant economies cannot provide jobs for all these young men (not to mention the even more oppressed young women).

Just for the kicker, a large swathe of the region is in love with a Perfectly Stupid Idea - Islamism, the return to a 7th century totalitarianism that never was.

Yup, I can't disagree with any of that. You forgot to mention that most of the place is just a huge, miserable desert!

Criticism of US support for Israel should not be taken as applause for Israel's enemies.

So tell me, which of these problems would be solved if Israel fell into the sea tomorrow?

Well, I haven't actually advocated that now, have I? In other discussions I've proposed my two possible LONG TERM solutions, and one way of removing the US from the whole messy situation, to the Israel-Palestine situation. In brief, here they are:

Solution 1 - Make Israel-Palestine one country, grant citizenship to the appropriate Palestinian "refugees", make its laws blind to religion/ethinicity to the extent possible. Positives - it's the American values solution, equality for all. It would be amazingly hard to actually implement, but over the VERY long term, it should produce peace and harmony. Different religions live side by side peacefully in the US, after a few generations they should be able to do so in the ME. Negatives - Aside from me, none of the involved parties (Jews and Muslims) wants this :-)

Solution 2 - A peace plan which guarantees Arab acceptance of a state of Israel which does not include any of Jerusalem. Jews get to live together in their homogenous ethnic country, Muslims get to keep control of the Al Aqsa mosque. There are 1.5 billion Muslims on the planet, 15 million Jews, and they have temples/mosques on top of each other. Give the spot to the 1.5 billion rather than the 15 million. Positives - the Zionists get most of what they want, just not control of their holy sites. Christians are doing fine without control of Christian holy sites in the ME, so can Zionists. Negatives - The 15 million aren't too happy.....

And my proposal for the way to have the US disengage from the battle, which is not America's battle. Grant US citizenship to any Israeli that wants it, use the funds spent on support for Israel and Egypt to relocate the Israelis that want to immigrate, and let the ones that want to stay in Israel fight their own battle with their neighbors with the US playing an objective role similar to the role we play in Tibet, Chechniya, Kajmir and other hot spots around the world, rather than commited to one side.

So those are my solutions/suggestions. Nothing has to fall into the sea....
