The U.S. Senate voted unanimously on Wednesday to force President George W. Bush to submit a budget for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars instead of financing them in emergency bills that are pushed through Congress with minimal scrutiny.

This guy on CNN was just back from Afghanistan. Two years ago, he was very optimistic about Afghanistan's prospects after a trip to the country back then. This time, he came back from a visit much more pessimistic. Karzai does not have control of the country and the Taliban are resurgent. Sixty percent of the country's GDP is made up of poppy growing for opium. Meanwhile 3K US troops are turning over control to UN troops very shortly.
