You really are missing the whole point: "Troops on the border" is the populist code term for anti-Hispanic racism, and the issue is putting the spotlight on those in the conservative movement who are so ignorant of history that they will stop at nothing-including abandoning every principle they have claimed to believe in-to keep THAM STANKIN MEXKINS out of "our" country.

Not a bunch you would want to trust to keep the troops ON the border rather than ACROSS it-especially when they finally see that the natural flow of humanity to economic freedom will keep THAM STANKIN MEXKINS coming in (just as it did the Irish, Eastern Europeans and Mediterranean immigrants), regardless of any troops.

And troops ordered to halt the tide of the oceans are probably going to kill someone-or join the other side...

Nothing overblown about the Hitler and Stalin references at all. The propagandists for those two sounded far more like Bill O'Reilly than any else ever could...
