And Fannie Mae is up today. Politicians let Fannie go under they can kiss the housing market goodbye and any chance at reelection. Unfortunately housing has become truely socialized and it is said it happened with Republicans in complete control. Something unthinkable when only a little more than a decade ago they destroyed Hillary for trying to do the same with healthcare which badly needed overhaul. Housing was doing fine in 2000-02 without more government interference.
