Do we still have bases in Germany, Japan, and Korea? Good point. OK, if Rumsfelt is lying to save solders lives, in this case, I don't see the harm in it. IMO, it would be a bit inane not to have a permanent base there given the instability of the entire region. Whether we actually have one or not though is going to be a decision for the Iraqis, which, come to think of it is a pretty good reason for Rumsfeld to say that we're not going to have one.
