I was thinking about this during the flap over the Star Spangled Banner being translated into Spanish. I also heard that Dubyette used the spanish version during his last inaugural speech even though he came out against it recently.

My point was that if the SSB was translated into every language available, why isn't that a great thing? The USA is more important as an IDEA of a Republic, a democracy (sorta), equal protection (sorta), civil rights, checks and balances (ha!), progressive taxation (hm), etc. etc. than it is as a specific plot of land at a specific point in time.

Countries come and go but the most important thing is that the basic IDEA of the USA survive and spread....with fixes for the things that aren't working well. People spend way too much time defending the specific country (my country right or wrong) instead of looking at what individuals are doing (right or wrong).

It's wrong to support the USA when it is doing wrong and right to support it when it is doing right.

It would be outstanding to have many countries around the world with progressive ideas so that when any individual country goes stupid someone will be there to bail stupid out.
