Few families are forced to sell family businesses by the estate tax. A great many private businesses are sold to prepare for Death Tax. The business owner of these businesses arranges things to avoid the risk to his family.

Sometimes estates are kept alive for years of even decades, I suspect that most are closed within a year. Dealing with the details of a complex estate can be daunting. If we just eliminated the death tax many more estates would be less complex.
