I can't remember Pelosi ever insulting widows, or saying we should make everyone in the Middle East Christian (or, since she is a Godless lefty, making them all atheist). Pelosi may have made some personal attacks- I honestly can't say I remember any- but she's done nothing on the same scale as Coulter. Moore is much more like Coulter- and he has said some fairly irresponsible things. When he says irresponsible things he deserves to be criticized - as does Coulter.

A point I've often made is that all mainstream US politicians would be classed as centre through right-wing in virtually any other Western country

Right and left are vague enough terms as it is, even when your just focusing on how they apply in the US. Its reasonable that an American, making comments in America (assuming both statements are true about Jim S, and if they aren't I would think they are true about the majority here) about American politicians, would base their classifications on American standards.
