That article missed that, I don't know why. There was a softening o of accents in the wake of the introduction of TV. Now it is true that there has been a resurgence of accents, which seems to be a national phenomena, among the younger generation. Apparently you can tell what borough someone in NYC is from again by their speech patterns and accent. I didn't mention them because they wouldn't have been represented in the CCs you listened to.


That's odd......are you sure? My nephews are growing up in New England and they don't have an accent at all. However, you could cut my bro-n-law's accent with a knife and he was born and raised in New England.

My understanding is that regional accents are experiencing a slow death due to tv and other forms of communication.
