Colombia just reelected Uribe, far from a socialist. Chavez jumped in bed with the new guy in Bolivia, but that's like worrying about a new governor in West Virginia having some significance for national politics. It might actually do some good for a few socialist loudmouths like Chavez to crash and burn and remind Latin America how much time they wasted playing those games in the past.

China seems to be an authoritarian capitalist state now. I don't know much about daily life there, but there seems to be very little communistic about it apart from the preeminence of the Party.

Mexico - has elections coming up soon between a candidate who is definitely left and another who is not. We'll see how it turns out.
