The 2nd amendment said nothing about citizens being able to own cannons, which were the military weapons of the day. The National Guard takes care of all other such concerns.

Rightwing extremists with military arsenals could be a clear and present danger to our law enforcement and federal agents. Remember Oklahoma City, the 90's paranoid militia movement and the Wackos from Waco. Oklahoma City ended any trust we as a country would ever have in the far right being overly armed. In fact, we must keep a close eye on them.

The other danger is from the far right neo-fascist political wing, which really would like to turn the US into some kind of a dictatorship. But the NRA types would probably support that, which means they are the potential danger to democracy, not anyone else.

All that said, democrats are for hunting and common sense home defense type weapons, which means handguns, shotguns and hunting rifles. There is no need to own anything else.
