No, Carter was a much better president than Bush. He did not lie. He was a real Christian. He largely united the country. He formed a giant clean energy program which Reagan dismantled, but that would have had us 100% off Arab oil by now. And he was just unlucky about the hostage rescue attempt.

Carter also inherited the post-Vietnam debt inflation and trouble in the Middle East which had brewing for a long time. His only option to stop it would have been to invade Iran, but that would have been nuts. Also, reaganites were secretly dealing with Iran and promising them arms shipments (which they later delivered) if Iran would hold the hostages until after the election.

Carter wasn't perfect but he was a man we could trust.
