"Then the way you choose definitions, the Canadian gov't is as bankrupt as the US gov't."

I thought I made that clear except that the depth of "bankruptcy" relates to the level of debt which relates to population and artificial money supply.

"You had best be rather careful of those non-legal definitions"

Surely. I think the English language can handle the full range it is intended to handle.

"Your argument is, pardon my bluntness, rather stupid in any case. Do you think current American doctors should practice medicine as their 18th century predecessors did? Do yours?"

Your analogy is stupid. I wasn't discussing medicine. I was responding to the question of whether or not the U.S. was Constitutionally on the silver/gold standard. It was. Whether or not it ought to return to it is a subject of legitimate argument and difference of opinion.

"BTW, how does the value of the Canadian dollar compare to what it had in 1867?"

One can have value relative to another, even when there are no tangible assets involved to back the currency.

"what an interesting phrase you use considering that you started by claiming the Constitution had been trashed!"

I am not Mr. Greenspan! Please try to see the difference! I posted his comments to demonstrate a well respected and recognised economic belief system! I am not responsible for his words nor for defending his words. I'm quite sure he could defend himself very nicely in the economic arena!

I did not claim the Constitution had been trashed. I posted a speech from someone who referred to the original Constitutional silver/gold standard. I was asked to cite the article. I did so.

I think it is fair to distrust artificial money. I know it is a very Libertarian and ultra right wing Capitalist view, but it is also held by middle of the road economists. It is just an opinion. It does not trash anything.
