They were defending with everybody. No space for Ronaldo or Adriano. After the first goal they came forward and Brazil imposed its football. Japan is going to be more interesting: they have to win at any rate. In the US Group US must win and Italy and Czech MUST NOT draw for the US to advance. Any other combination of results US is out. But a Italy x Czech draw is unlikely. Because neither Italy nor Czech wants to face Brazil in the next round, they must play to win to be the first of Group E and face a lowly Australia or Japan and send the one finishing second to face Brazil. But note the US will face Brazil in the next round if it advances since it has no chance to finish first in the group.
