Were you able to predict back when you first rented that place that your rent wouldn't change for many years? Can you predict what your rent will be 10 years from now in that particular house? Rents are subject to market forces and that can work for you or against you. When you buy a house you pay a premium to lock in a percentage of the cost over a long period.
